ShepardTone
Tension, without a ceiling.
Make pitch seem to climb forever, or fall without finding the floor. Create Shepard-Risset glissando illusions on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV, with two included AUv3 extensions for iOS and macOS.
An illusion with no ceiling
Layer octaves into a sound that seems to rise or fall endlessly. Build suspense for a film, score a game, or explore the illusion on its own.
MIDI instrument, included
Play ShepardTone through MIDI in your preferred AUv3-compatible DAW. Generate the illusion as an instrument on iOS and macOS.
Shepard Bands FX, included
Turn your own audio into a Shepard-Risset glissando. The included AUv3 effect gives you fine control over the result, from a subtle shift to dramatic, mounting tension. Available on iOS and macOS.
Standalone on your Apple devices
Use ShepardTone on iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple TV. The standalone app supports iOS, macOS, and tvOS; the MIDI instrument and FX extensions are included for iOS and macOS.
Shape the tension
Start with the built-in presets, save your own, and fine-tune the sound with extensive controls. A dynamic visualization follows what you hear.
Export the illusion
Generate WAV files for your projects, ready to use in music, film, games, and other sound work.
